You don't need to drop 15lbs to do a photoshoot

The most common hesitation I hear from prospective clients is, “I really want to shoot with you — I just need to drop 15lbs/lose a size/tone up before I come in!”

These hesitations, while totally understandable, misunderstand the purpose and values behind my photography. I don’t care what my clients look like. My photography is for all bodies — regardless of size, shape, (adult) age, color, ethnicity, gender, or ability status. I want you to come as you are.

Don’t get me wrong — if you’re spending a significant amount of money on portraits, I’m sure you want to look your best. But I want to challenge the idea that you have to look a certain way to fall completely in love with your photos; the truth is, a couple sizes or 15lbs won’t make much difference when you’re in front of the camera; and, if you were realistically capable of achieving those fitness goals in a very short period of time, you probably would have achieved them already.

There are some exceptions to this; for example, I photographed this figure competitor; she was right on the heels of a competition and wanted photos to capture her peak condition. It’s worth pointing out that, as always, she — like all figure competitors and bodybuilders — did not maintain this condition very long.

However, that’s a rare and very specific circumstance. The overwhelming majority of my clients do not look like professional models or figure competitors. They are ordinary people with all the physical “flaws” and “imperfections” we all have.

Your body is worth celebrating right now. Of course, when you do achieve your fitness goals, you can just come back and capture yourself a second time, and it will be an even more dramatic showcase of your transformation!
